Title: Study: Suicide Cases in Lebanon Rise by 65%

The magazine "International Information" highlighted the increase in suicide rates in Lebanon, presenting figures that may indeed be larger, as the cases mentioned are those officially reported by security forces. The study reviewed some cases, including one in the town of Azour in the Jezzine district, where on Thursday, June 8, 2023, a citizen killed his wife and mother-in-law, then took his own life, leaving behind his three children. Prior to that, in the town of Darya in Chouf, on February 24, 2023, a similar incident occurred when a citizen strangled his wife and his 3-year-old son before jumping from the top of a building.

The study continued: "These crimes and others have raised the number of suicides over the past months and days of the current year to 66 victims, compared to 40 cases during the same period last year, marking a 65% increase. If this trend continues, the number could rise to more than 170 victims by the end of the year, which would be the highest recorded in Lebanon between the years 2012 and 2022."

It noted that the mentioned suicide cases are those recorded by the Internal Security Forces, and there may be cases not logged as suicides; thus, the actual number of suicides could be higher than the documented figures.
