The United Arab Emirates announced the arrival of the first humanitarian aid ship to the Gaza Strip, carrying 200 tons of food and relief supplies. This effort was in collaboration with the UAE, the World Central Kitchen organization, and the Republic of Cyprus, using the maritime corridor between Cyprus and Gaza, starting from the port of Larnaca.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, highlighted the efforts made by the UAE to rally support for the "Amalthea" maritime corridor initiative aimed at delivering humanitarian aid to northern Gaza and ensuring its success. They praised the vital role played by the leadership of the Republic of Cyprus, the World Central Kitchen, and international partners in enhancing the humanitarian response provided to civilians in northern Gaza.
The ministry clarified that the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the area necessitates adopting such an international cooperative approach to mitigate its impacts without delay on innocent civilians, by ensuring the immediate, safe, unobstructed, and large-scale sustainable flow of aid. The ministry confirmed that the maritime corridor is part of ongoing efforts to increase the flow of aid and commercial goods through all routes.
As part of its firm commitment to the brotherly Palestinian people and providing humanitarian initiatives to support them, the UAE has delivered 21,000 tons of urgent supplies, including food, water, and medical supplies, through the dispatch of 213 aircraft, carrying out 8 air drop operations, and sending 946 trucks and two ships. Additionally, the UAE has launched several sustainable relief projects and provides medical care to the people of the region by establishing a field hospital in southern Gaza and a floating hospital off the coast of the Egyptian city of Arish.
