Data from the European statistics office "Eurostat" shows that Germany topped the list of the largest chocolate exporting countries in the European Union in 2023. The Netherlands and Poland followed Germany on the list. The European statistics office stated, "EU countries exported 867 thousand tonnes of chocolate to countries outside the union last year." Eurostat added, "This represents a 2 percent increase compared to 2022 and a 35 percent increase compared to 2013." Germany exported about 221 thousand tonnes of chocolate in 2023, accounting for approximately 26 percent of the EU's exports, followed by the Netherlands in second place with 123 thousand tonnes, or about 14 percent of exports, and Poland in third place with 115 thousand tonnes, or about 13 percent of EU exports. Together, these three countries, along with Belgium and Italy, accounted for three-quarters of the European Union's chocolate exports. The UK was the top importer of chocolate from the EU, with about 315 thousand tonnes, followed by the USA with approximately 72 thousand tonnes, Russia with 65 thousand tonnes, Canada with 31 thousand tonnes, and Australia with 27 thousand tonnes.
