The President of the Egyptian Football Association, Gamal Allam, confirmed that the Liverpool star and captain of the national team, Mohamed Salah, will participate with the Olympic team in the upcoming Paris Olympics next summer. Allam stated in remarks during a cultural seminar organized by the federation, "Salah wants to play with the Olympic team and he will be present." He also mentioned that Brazilian coach Rogério Micale will soon announce the names of the three over-age players participating in the Paris Olympics. Each team is allowed to include three players over the age of 23 in the men's football competition scheduled between July 24 and August 9. The Egyptian team is coached by Micale, who led his country to a gold medal in the football competition at the Rio 2016 Olympics on home soil. Egypt has been placed in Group C alongside Spain, the Dominican Republic, and a team qualifying from Asia.
