On Sunday, the state-owned "Al Mamlaka" channel in Jordan reported that King Abdullah participated in an aerial drop to provide aid to the Gaza Strip. A viral video shows King Abdullah II dressed in military attire aboard a military aircraft during the latest aerial drop of urgent medical supplies to field hospitals operated by Jordan in the war-torn region.
Official media reported that the kingdom conducted its latest aerial drop on February 6. Jordan and other Arab countries are pressuring Israel to allow more aid into the Gaza Strip, but the kingdom is the only country carrying out aerial aid drops to hospitals it runs in the area.
Jordan has conducted 11 aerial aid drops of medical supplies, including at least two in collaboration with the French and Dutch air forces.
On Thursday, the Jordanian monarch began a tour of several major Western capitals and is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington on Monday to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Jordan succeeded in persuading Israel to allow the World Food Program to send aid to Gaza via a land route starting from its territory, which helped ease pressure on the main Rafah border crossing.
The kingdom is concerned about the expansion of the conflict in Gaza to the West Bank, where wide-scale violence by settlers, encouraged by the Israeli army, threatens a mass displacement of Palestinians to Jordan.
