The Minister of Finance in the caretaker government, Youssef Khalil, announced that the ministry is committed to submitting the 2025 budget on its constitutional deadline. In a statement, he urged all institutions, agencies, councils, and public funds benefiting from financial contributions outlined in the budget to submit their budget projects to the Ministry of Finance before the end of May, accompanied by all necessary supporting documents, statistics, and clarifications related to their expenses and revenues.
He pointed out that the Accounting Directorate is ready to discuss these budgets starting today. Khalil emphasized the "role of public administrations and institutions in the circumstances the country is going through, in planning and contributing to the preparation of a realistic budget draft that meets needs and considers financial capabilities,” considering that “partnership and cooperation begin before the budget implementation process, through submitting realistic budgets from these administrations, without neglecting the involvement of all parties from civil society and the private sector."
He stated: "The 2025 budget should not bear any additional burdens that can be avoided or postponed, to prevent any funding needs exceeding the treasury's capacity to bear, which necessitates taking austerity measures to achieve this while advancing reform steps and completing what was initiated in the 2024 budget regarding enhancing revenues to cover treasury expenditures and fortify financial and monetary stability."
