Camel Journey Traverses the Western Desert Towards the Finish Line

37 participants from 16 nationalities are taking part in the 10th edition of the camel journey, which lasts for 12 days, starting from the Arada area and extending 550 km on camelback through the sand dunes. Participants will return to the heritage village on January 6, 2024.

According to the events management at the Hamdan bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival, the journey commenced from the last area in the Rub' al Khali desert on December 26, and participants have so far passed several notable stations including southern Tal Marb, Al-Kharza, east of the Qasr Al-Sarab reserve, the Arabian Oryx reserve, and east of Haliba. The caravan is continuing its route towards east of Um Al-Hub, south of the Boutees reserve, south of Al-Khazna, Suwaihan, Al-Ajbaan, and Saih Al-Salam, eventually reaching the heritage village where the conclusion will take place.

The caravan is led by His Excellency Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmook, CEO of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival, who emphasized the journey's role in promoting national identity and instilling original values within the community, serving as a memory for the nation and its historical heritage. He affirmed the significance of this journey as one of the center's key events in preserving Emirati heritage and its popular legacy.

He added, "We cover a distance ranging from 45 to 50 km daily... We faced some difficulties with a number of camels, but thanks to the experience and capabilities of the team responsible for the journey, we managed to overcome these obstacles and maintained the schedule of the journey."
