Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati confirmed, "We are following up communications with all parties locally and internationally to avert war in Lebanon, despite everything our nation has suffered so far, especially regarding the number of martyrs to whom we pay tribute. God willing, matters will not escalate further." Miqati's statement came after his visit to the Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan, at the Dar al-Fatwa, attended by the directors of the facilities associated with Dar al-Fatwa.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister remarked, "As is customary every year, at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, I visit Dar al-Fatwa to extend my greetings and best wishes to His Eminence and all the virtuous ones, and to all Muslims, particularly the Lebanese, hoping that this month brings goodness, blessings, peace, well-being, and tranquility to all Lebanese."
During the meeting, we discussed the general conditions, addressing all the situations we are going through at this time. Regarding fears of a large-scale Israeli aggression on Lebanon, he stated, "We are following up communications with all parties locally and internationally to avert war in Lebanon, despite everything our nation has suffered so far, especially in terms of the number of martyrs to whom we pay tribute. God willing, matters will not escalate further."
When asked if he expects the election of a president soon, he said, "I hope the elections take place as soon as possible, today before tomorrow, because the election is essential to restore constitutional institutions and begin the necessary reform process." Miqati concluded, "The election of the president is not the end of the road, but rather the beginning of hope for reform and resolution in the country."
