Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry firmly rejected any Israeli military operations in the overcrowded city and attempted forced displacement against Palestinians. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a post on its Facebook page that the two ministers discussed developments in the Israeli war in Gaza on the sidelines of their participation in G20 Foreign Ministers' meetings held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The statement noted that Shoukry discussed the necessary actions with Prince Faisal within the framework of the Arab group and the multilateral cooperation to mitigate the crisis in Gaza. During his meeting with the Saudi minister, the Egyptian minister emphasized the legal and humanitarian responsibilities that international parties hold to stop the war against the Gaza Strip and achieve an immediate ceasefire.
Shoukry condemned the repeated failure of the Security Council in its session held yesterday to pass a ceasefire resolution due to the American veto, pointing out that the inability to pass the resolution raises questions about the efficacy and credibility of the rules and mechanisms of the international system.
According to the statement, Shoukry and Prince Faisal discussed the escalating tensions in the region regarding the situation in Gaza, including threats to maritime security in the Red Sea. The two ministers stressed the continuation of communications with various parties to support efforts for de-escalation and to prevent the expansion of the conflict in the region, agreeing on ongoing coordination to mitigate the crisis in Gaza and its ramifications.
It is noteworthy that this meeting came after Israeli threats of a possible invasion of Rafah before Ramadan, only a few weeks away.
