American YouTuber Anthony Villa considers himself lucky to be alive after crashing to the ground while paragliding when his wing flipped and he fell in the desert at a speed of 48 miles per hour. The 33-year-old Anthony Villa was testing the "BGD Luna 3" at Enchanted Rock State Park, northwest of Austin, Texas, when it suddenly plummeted from an altitude of 85 to 100 feet in the air.
The American YouTuber shared a video of the incident on his YouTube account, showing most of the half-hour he spent lying on the ground in pain until paramedics reached his remote location. Villa did not mention the time of the accident at the beginning of the footage, but he appeared in his hospital bed receiving treatment for fractures in his neck, back, pelvis, and right arm.
He explained that the accident was due to losing a small tension knot during his pre-launch checks, where applying the brakes on the fully accelerated paraglider leads to a fall, and the loss of the tension knot has the same effect. Villa showed the accident from three different angles as he hit the ground and immediately yelled in pain from his serious injuries, calling for emergency assistance over the phone.
Villa promised to document his recovery and return to the skies as soon as possible.
