Evacuation of a Hall at Sorbonne Occupied by Pro-Gaza Protesters

French police intervened at the Sorbonne University to end the occupation of a classroom by Palestinian-supporting activists in the prestigious Parisian university, reflecting the firm messages issued by the government just a day earlier. Less than 24 hours after Prime Minister Gabriel Attal promised that there would never be a right to disrupt French universities, a police force entered the campus to evacuate pro-Palestinian demonstrators who had occupied a lecture hall for two hours in solidarity with Gaza.

The activists, numbering around a hundred, were removed one by one by the police and taken to a street near the university, with officers often needing to carry the protesters out by force. The police announced that they arrested a total of 39 individuals during the evacuation. While police were clearing the demonstrators from the classroom, dozens of supporters of the Palestinian cause gathered near the security perimeter established by the police around the university, chanting "Palestine will live, Palestine will win."
