Sami Al-Tareeqi, a member of the defense team for Rashid Ghannouchi, the leader of the Ennahda Movement, revealed that the proceedings in various cases involving detainees, including Ghannouchi's detention, have not adhered to legal norms. Al-Tareeqi mentioned at a press conference for the defense team, reported by Tunisian "Mosaïque," that Ghannouchi is detained for a "political statement calling for reconciliation, national unity, and the renunciation of violence," and that an additional charge arose from his remarks during the memorial of a friend in Tataouine.
He explained that the public prosecutor's office relied on a "fabricated and edited political statement attributed to Ghannouchi and published on an anti-Ennahda page," leading to the accusation of "altering the state’s structure," with legal articles that carry penalties up to death. He confirmed that the defense team has filed a case against the anti-Ennahda page that published "the truncated and fabricated statement," as he described it.
Al-Tareeqi stated that "Ghannouchi is receiving the necessary medical care and follow-up in the detention facility by the prisons and rehabilitation authority." He clarified that Ghannouchi has boycotted interrogation sessions with security forces due to mistreatment, and this stance has extended to a boycott of judicial bodies due to "a loss of trust in the judiciary and lack of reassurance," emphasizing that this boycott is ongoing.
