The Ghantoot International Polo Championship resumes tomorrow, Saturday, at 3 PM on the Ghantoot Club fields. The first edition of the championship commenced on Thursday under the patronage of Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Ghantoot Equestrian and Polo Club, supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in coordination with the UAE Polo Federation.
Four strong teams with a "20 handicap" level are participating in the tournament, which concludes on March 9. The organizing committee has allocated a total prize fund of 200,000 dirhams. In the opening round, the Ghantoot team won against the Abu Dhabi team with a score of 12-7, while the UAE team defeated the Habtoor team 11-10.
The match between Ghantoot and Abu Dhabi was particularly thrilling, especially in the third chukker, which saw three ties between the teams before Ghantoot, led by Nasser Al Shamsi, took control and maintained their lead until the end. The match between UAE and Habtoor remained balanced until the UAE team, led by Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, excelled in defense, winning the third chukker 7-4. The Habtoor team then regained the initiative in the fourth chukker, narrowing the gap to 8-7, but the UAE team managed to secure the win in the fifth chukker.
