Title: Al-Miqdad to Bou Habib: Occupation and Sanctions Prevent Return of Refugees

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad discussed the issue of the return of Syrian refugees and how to address everything that hinders this return during a phone call with Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib. They emphasized the "depth of the fraternal and historical relations between the two countries, noting that the harm to one affects the other."

Al-Miqdad reiterated that "Syria welcomes the return of all Syrian refugees to their homeland and is doing everything possible to facilitate their return," stressing that "the obstacles to their return are due to the consequences of the ongoing Turkish and American occupation of northwestern and northeastern Syria and the looting of its resources, in addition to the catastrophic effects of the continued implementation of the illegal economic measures imposed on Syria by the hostile Western countries toward Lebanon and Syria."

Bou Habib mentioned that he "will head an official Lebanese delegation to visit Syria soon to discuss the issue of Syrian refugees," expressing "the Lebanese government's keenness to coordinate and cooperate with Syria in this regard."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced that "following the Cabinet's decision to assign Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib to lead an official delegation to Syria to discuss the displaced persons issue, Minister Bou Habib made a call to his Syrian counterpart Faisal Al-Miqdad, and they agreed to hold a meeting upon his return from New York," where he will participate alongside President Najib Mikati in the activities of the United Nations General Assembly, and he will meet there with the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister representing his country at the UN meetings.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in a statement that the Syrian Foreign Minister welcomed Bou Habib's visit and the accompanying delegation to Damascus, expressing his readiness for any collaboration that serves the interests of both countries.
