On Tuesday, Egypt's Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of Sudan and South Sudan, met at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the U.S. envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, accompanied by the U.S. Ambassador to Cairo, Hiro Mustafa, to discuss efforts to halt the war in Sudan. According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the meeting addressed "the efforts to achieve a ceasefire and return to the negotiating table, to preserve the lives of the Sudanese people and ensure the safety of civilians, as well as the possibility of opening humanitarian corridors to facilitate the delivery of food and medical supplies to the Sudanese."
Additionally, the statement highlighted the pivotal role of Egypt and neighboring countries in this regard. It reviewed the ongoing preparations for the international humanitarian conference to support Sudan and its neighboring countries, which will be hosted in Paris on April 15. The conference is expected to see wide participation from countries backing peace efforts in Sudan, donors, and international organizations.
According to the Egyptian statement, both sides agreed to "continue consultations and coordination during the upcoming phase, providing all forms of support that contribute to helping Sudan overcome the critical and sensitive stage it is currently passing through."
