The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry announced in a brief statement that Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces leader Mohammed Hamdan Daglo (Hamidti) arrived in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa today, Thursday. The statement noted that Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen welcomed Hamidti at Bole International Airport upon his arrival, according to the "Arab World" news agency.
Following the postponement of a meeting that was scheduled today between Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces leader, the latter confirmed during his meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday his commitment to the outcomes of the IGAD summit held in Djibouti, and the execution of commitments to end the war, alleviate the suffering of Sudanese people, and restore security and stability to the country.
Daglo made these statements during his first announced foreign visit since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan, where he discussed developments in Sudan with President Museveni in Uganda, stating that he presented his vision for negotiations, ending the war, and building the Sudanese state on new just foundations.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry expressed regret over what it described as the procrastination of the Rapid Support Forces leadership in heeding the voice of reason. The Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated that Burhan had expressed his willingness to attend the Djibouti meeting and was preparing to go, noting that the IGAD organization informed them that the Rapid Support Forces leader would not be able to attend.
In humanitarian news, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) announced the evacuation of 253 children and infants from Wad Madani City in the Al-Jazeera State, central Sudan, after fighting broke out there to a safer location in the country.
