Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and a accompanying delegation arrived in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh today, Saturday, to participate in the World Economic Forum meeting and discuss ways to reach a peace agreement in the Gaza Strip. The Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Borge Brende, noted on Saturday that “Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and a number of international officials will hold talks in Riyadh aimed at advancing towards a peace agreement in Gaza on the sidelines of the forum meeting.”
Brende added during a press conference in Riyadh: “Key players are currently in Riyadh, and we hope that the discussions will lead to a process that results in reconciliation and peace,” confirming that “the humanitarian crisis in Gaza will be on the agenda.”
The Chairman of the World Economic Forum stated that “U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will attend the meetings alongside regional leaders, including the Qatari Prime Minister, the Saudi Foreign Minister, the Crown Prince of Oman, and Bahraini officials.” He mentioned that “the Egyptian Foreign Minister will also be present to update officials on the round of talks that Egyptian negotiators held in Israel on Friday in an attempt to resume the stalled efforts to end the war in Gaza and recover the remaining Israeli captives.”
He added, “There is now a degree of momentum regarding negotiations on hostages as well as a potential ceasefire.”
