Geagea: The Return Convoys of Syrians are a Demand to Absorb Public Discontent and Close the Issue

The President of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, stated, "In recent days, we have heard from some state officials about organizing a convoy for the return of illegal Syrian refugees to Syria next week, with estimates of the number of participants in this convoy varying between hundreds and thousands." He added in a statement, "What I would like to say regarding this matter is that organizing convoys on demand, in an attempt to absorb popular, political, and national resentment and to close the file by returning a few hundred or thousands, means that the current government officials are not addressing this issue with the seriousness it deserves and are continuing to waste time, as we are talking about at least 1.7 million illegal Syrian migrants currently in Lebanon, not just a few hundred, thousands, or even tens of thousands."

Geagea emphasized that "the current government officials, especially the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Defense and Interior, must issue clear and explicit orders to the relevant security agencies, primarily the General Security, to fulfill their legal duties regarding the deportation of any illegal migrant present on Lebanese territory." He added, "We have heard many times before about return convoys, as we hear today, without any noticeable effect on the illegal Syrian presence in Lebanon. Therefore, we should not revert to the same scenario and waste more time, as there is no longer time to waste in Lebanon."
