Lebanon's Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri confirmed in a statement to Lebanese media that "there is nothing security-related that warrants the statements from the embassies" which called on their nationals to exercise caution and leave Lebanon. Berri expressed his astonishment, stating that the warning concerning areas of conflict near Ain al-Hilweh "can be understood," but the call for nationals to leave is "unfathomable," indicating that the situation in Ain al-Hilweh has been calm for three days, asking, "Why such warning statements?"
Berri met with former MP Walid Jumblatt, who commented on the embassies' decisions to withdraw their nationals, saying, "Together with President Berri, we did not understand why this fear exists in the embassies' statements; it seems there are matters we are unaware of, but regarding the Ain al-Hilweh camp, the situation appears somewhat contained, and the Palestinian and Lebanese efforts may lead to a resolution."
Regarding his relationship with President Berri and their differing views on the presidential issue, Jumblatt affirmed, "I have not separated from President Berri. Should I discuss our shared history that spans decades? Should I talk about the abrogation of May 17, which is a national and pan-Arab achievement we are proud of?"
Jumblatt also mentioned "the positive signs and what will happen regarding drilling in the south concerning Lebanese wealth," commending the substantial efforts made by President Berri, stating, "The sovereign fund will be revealed for all Lebanese, which is very important."
