The investigative judge in Beirut, Asaad Bayram, issued his preliminary decision regarding the corruption case in the Ministry of Education, which involves the receipt of bribes in exchange for expediting the equivalency of certificates for Iraqi students. The decision, which was released today, prohibits the prosecution of the head of the examination department and the secretary of the pre-university equivalency committee, Amal Shaaban, for all the crimes attributed to her. Additionally, the preliminary decision charges the two accused employees, Redou and Anthony Basim, with bribery under Article 351 of the Penal Code, as well as the broker Hussein Jbeq, who is also charged with bribery under Articles 351 and 353 of the Penal Code.
