Counterfeit Medicines in Egypt and Drug Authority Warning

The Egyptian Drug Authority has issued a warning to citizens about three counterfeit medications in the market: Prisoline eye drops and the Compositing inhaler. The authority stated in a press release that the circulation and distribution of the counterfeit product of Prisoline, an antibiotic that constricts blood vessels and alleviates congestion, have been halted.

Additionally, a warning was issued regarding the Compositing inhaler, confirming that its distribution has also been stopped, and counterfeit products have been seized in the market. This inhaler is used for treating asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is intended for children.

The Drug Authority urged citizens not to purchase medications from outside licensed pharmacies, and if there are any doubts regarding these medications, they should refer to the Drug Authority.

Previously, the authority had decided to stop the circulation and seize counterfeit packages of Suprax 100 mg, emphasizing to the public the importance of only buying pharmaceutical products from licensed pharmacies. They also warned against counterfeit packages of Ozempic 1 mg pre-filled pens, used for treating type 2 diabetes, as they help in reducing blood sugar levels.
