Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the international community today, Sunday, to recognize Palestine as a full member state of the United Nations, revealing that "Israel has destroyed three quarters of the Gaza Strip" and warning that "the situation in the sector is extremely dire."
Abbas stated, "If Israel invades Rafah, it will create the largest disaster in the history of the Palestinian people," adding that "a political solution must be found that unites Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem in an independent Palestinian state."
He also expressed his fears about the war machine and displacement potentially moving to the West Bank, saying, "I fear that Israel will turn to the West Bank after Gaza to expel its people towards Jordan."
He continued, "We will not accept under any circumstances the displacement of Palestinians outside the framework of their homeland." Abbas urged the United States to instruct or request that Israel halt its operations in Rafah, pointing out that "the United States is the only country capable of preventing Israel from committing this crime."
