A friend of the Algerian boy Nael Marzouki shared the terrifying details of Nael's last moments before he was killed by a member of the French police in the suburb of Nanterre. The friend stated in an audio clip that they borrowed a yellow car to tour the city, and a police patrol pursued them rapidly. When Nael stopped the car at their request, one officer ordered him to open the window, while another asked him to get out of the vehicle and struck him with the butt of his gun. The second officer then said to the first, "Shoot him."
He continued: "The officer hit Nael again with the butt of his gun, causing him to lose control, and he lifted his foot off the brake pedal, making the car lurch forward slightly. The second officer fired directly at Nael, who then pressed the gas pedal harder, causing the car to speed up."
He added that after a while, the car stopped moving after the shooting, and he fled the scene fearing that he would meet the same fate as Nael at the hands of the police. He emphasized that they were not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at that time.
