In a tragic incident that has become alarmingly common in Egypt, a horrifying crime took place in Assiut governorate on Tuesday. A young woman was killed by her fiancé after he stabbed her multiple times following a dispute over her refusal to marry him. After committing the murder, the fiancé jumped from the fifth floor.
According to neighbors and eyewitnesses, conflicts arose between the victim, Basant Sobhi (17 years old), and her fiancé, Haitham Mustafa (30 years old), which led her to break off their engagement of nine months and refuse to go through with the wedding. Four days later, the fiancé returned armed with a knife, pursuing her to her home in Abnoub, Assiut, where he stabbed her ten times, mostly in the back. He then turned the knife on himself and fled to the fifth floor, where he jumped, sustaining serious injuries and fractures.
One eyewitness reported that the young man attempted to stab the victim's mother while she was trying to rescue her daughter, resulting in her being accidentally injured as well. The young woman was taken to the hospital for treatment but tragically passed away a few hours later. The young man was also transferred to Assiut University Hospital for medical treatment and was detained to provide his statement, with investigations continuing and necessary legal actions being taken.
