The National Orthodox Council reaffirmed its concerns in a statement about the potential "disappearance of the Lebanese entity and its constitution, and the ending of its existence on the map." The council highlighted the greater fear stemming from the ongoing severe internal division among various political parties, as well as the lack of trust from the world and foreign nations in this political system, which is handling the economic, financial, social, and health situations with negligence. The most alarming aspect is that "Lebanon is on the brink of war with the Zionist enemy."
The council noted that "there are no clear plans for rescuing the nation and escaping from hell. The situation in Lebanon is open to all possibilities, as the enemy is waiting for the opportunity to pounce on us. We witness how it targets Lebanon daily, killing innocents in their homes and on the roads without warning, in the absence of the state."
It expressed astonishment that "no one raises their voice or speaks boldly and frankly for fear of being targeted or killed and accused of treason." The statement also pointed to rumors that "there is a plan to widen the rift among the Lebanese by promoting Saad Hariri as Prime Minister and Suleiman Franjieh as President."
The council questioned, "How can these political families, which inherit their positions in the state regardless of their success or failure, control the situation while the people die a hundred times daily from their pain, anguish, and health?"
It emphasized that "the country cannot continue this way with the same individuals and the same corrupt political system." The council stressed the necessity for "all free Lebanese from all sects and denominations to awaken because Lebanon does not belong to anyone or is indebted to anyone, nor is it in the hands of a family, sect, party, or trend."
The statement affirmed that "nothing will change if the people do not change. Some follow a leader, party, trend, or even a specific sect for a little money. No one dies of hunger, but people die due to the neglect of these irresponsible officials who care only about staying in their positions."
It considered that "the solution is clear and easy," calling for "the election of a President of the Republic and a Prime Minister away from this system and the old political parties and feudal families." The council reiterated its demand for a free, independent, and sovereign state that is not indebted to anyone, either internally or externally, and called for "returning to the squares to demand the salvation of Lebanon that every Lebanese dreams of."
