Russian military sources have announced that "the military recently conducted successful tests on a new submarine from the Varshavyanka class." In a statement issued by the press service of the Western Military District of the army, it was mentioned: "The crew of the Mojaisk submarine successfully carried out new diving tests, and during the tests conducted in the Baltic Sea, it was able to dive to a depth of 190 meters below the water surface."
The statement added: "During the tests, the crew checked the operation of all the submarine's equipment and systems, implementing different algorithms for operating the submarine at depths and for surfacing it. After completing the diving tests, the submarine surfaced and successfully continued its operations above water, with support boats and ships from a Russian military base in the Baltic Sea participating in the tests."
The "Mojaisk" is a multipurpose diesel-electric submarine from the Varshavyanka class, developed by Russia under project "636.3." Each Varshavyanka submarine measures 73 meters in length, 10 meters in width, can dive to a depth of 300 meters, and can travel at a speed of 20 nautical knots, operating independently at sea for 45 days. It is also equipped with 6 torpedo launchers of 533 mm caliber and platforms for launching long-range "Kalibr" cruise missiles.
