Ministry of Education Withdraws Signatures from 120 Schools

Minister of Education and Higher Education Abbas Halabi tasked the General Director of Education, Imad Ashkar, with implementing legal measures against private non-free school directors who have failed to pay their obligations to the Compensation Fund and the Pension Fund for the educational staff in private schools. This follows the minister's repeated public appeals for schools to fulfill their commitments as per the protocol signed between the mentioned institutions and the Teachers' Syndicate, which was endorsed by the minister. The aim was to secure funding for the teachers' pension fund and to multiply it sixfold, enabling teachers to live with a minimum acceptable level of dignity.

The minister confirmed that due to the failure of this number of institutions to pay their share, the fund would not be able to disburse pension payments at the end of this month. Consequently, the General Director of Education has begun withdrawing the signatures of approximately 120 schools as an initial phase, meaning that certificates, lists, and transactions from these schools will no longer be accepted in ministry departments. The minister reiterated a warning to non-compliant institutions that future measures will be stricter, noting that legislation is imminent and expressing surprise that institutions which rejected the law also failed to comply with the protocol.
