Boeing Required to Address Quality Issues Within 90 Days

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Wednesday that it has informed Boeing that it must develop a comprehensive plan to address "systemic quality control issues" within 90 days following a meeting with Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun. FAA Administrator Mike Witkowski stated in a press release after Tuesday's meeting, "Boeing must commit to real and substantial improvements. Making fundamental change will require ongoing effort from Boeing leadership, and we will hold them accountable at every step of the way, with key milestones and agreed-upon expectations." Boeing swiftly strengthened its safety procedures after a door panel detached during a flight on January 5 on a brand-new 737 Max 9 aircraft operated by Alaska Airlines, forcing pilots to make an emergency landing while the passengers were at an altitude of 16,000 feet.
