Iran Executes Alleged Mossad Agent

The official news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran reported the execution of "an individual it claimed was an agent for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad" on Saturday in the Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran. The report stated that "this individual communicated with foreign agencies, including Mossad, and gathered confidential information, collaborating with accomplices to provide documents to foreign agencies, including Mossad." The agency did not reveal the name of this individual, mentioning that the accused had submitted confidential information to "a Mossad officer" with the intention of "promoting groups and organizations opposing the Islamic Republic." The timing of the arrest was unclear, but the agency noted that an appeal was rejected. This execution, which took place in Zahedan prison in Sistan and Baluchestan province, follows a day after armed militants from the Baluch region attacked a police station in the province, resulting in the deaths of 11 security personnel and injuries to others. The state television reported that a formal funeral was held today for the victims in the town of Rask, which witnessed the attack. Two militants from the Jaish al-Adl group were also killed during the clashes that followed the attack.
