An unidentified individual threatened the German embassy in Beirut by sending emails to their address, threatening the German ambassador and the staff in exchange for 40,000 euros. Following this, the embassy filed a complaint against the perpetrator. The Central Criminal Investigation Department of the Judicial Police began their investigations to identify the suspect. After monitoring and tracking operations, they determined the suspect's identity and location, leading to his arrest. The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division released the following statement:
"In the framework of the work carried out by the Central Criminal Investigation Department of the Judicial Police to arrest wanted individuals, and after receiving a complaint from the German embassy in Beirut against a person who sent three emails on different dates threatening the German ambassador and the staff, demanding a sum of 40,000 euros to avoid any harm against the ambassador and embassy members, the department's elements started their investigations to identify the perpetrator. The suspect's identity and location were established in Sin el Fil, leading to his arrest. It was found that he is identified as: A. A. J. (born in 1986, Syrian) with a history of threats, extortion, and assault.
Upon searching him and his phone, it was confirmed that he had sent threatening messages to the German embassy, which are still present in the provided files, and also to the Philippine embassy in Beirut. Additionally, $8,000 was seized in his possession. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the relevant judiciary."
