André Onana, Manchester United's goalkeeper, stated that he takes the blame for his team's 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. The German team scored two goals within four minutes in the first half at Allianz Arena, paving the way for their victory in the opening group match. Bayern took the lead due to an error from the Cameroonian keeper, who failed to deal with a weak shot from Leroy Sané, allowing the ball to slip through his hands and into the net.
Onana told TNT Sports, "It's hard to lose like this because we are at the beginning of our journey. We started the match well, but after my mistake, we lost control of the game." The goalkeeper, who joined from Inter Milan last July, added, "It's a tough situation for me, especially because I'm the reason the team declined, as it was doing well. I believe the team didn't win because of me."
United's coach, Erik ten Hag, commented on Onana: "We need to move on; this is the life of goalkeepers. If we don’t win today, I’m to blame." The Dutch coach continued, "In football, everyone makes mistakes, and this is just one mistake, so it shouldn't be exaggerated."
