In a first-of-its-kind statement, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati did not conceal from Bkerke that the solution for the situation in the south lies in "implementing international resolutions" from the "Armistice Agreement" (1949) to Resolution 1701 (after the July 2006 war), along with all international resolutions. He emphasized the willingness to comply with execution, provided that the Israeli side commits and withdraws according to international laws and resolutions from the occupied territories.
Just two days before the celebration of Christmas, preparations for the occasion are ongoing amid security measures and attempts to overcome economic and financial difficulties, creating "hope" for the coming year, despite the negative currents from various political forces and blocs, which have led to a climate of distance and division—whether regarding the inability to agree on electing a new president, the regularity of institutional work, or moving forward without challenges and revisals to laws issued by the Parliament.
Informed political sources told "Al-Liwaa" that as the country enters the holiday season, all files will be postponed until next year, while anticipation dominates regarding developments on the southern front and international pressure for Resolution 1701. The sources noted that Mikati acted to emphasize the importance of implementing international resolutions; however, the appointment of a Chief of Staff remains pending, according to sources, who indicated that the Maronite Patriarch's Christmas sermon focused on the presidential file.
In the same vein, the sources mentioned that the visit of French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian to Lebanon has not yet been scheduled but is forthcoming. Against the backdrop of the divergence between the positions of the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah regarding urgent legislation and participation in the extension of the army commander via a law issued by Parliament, as well as the direction to appoint a new Chief of Staff after the Cabinet, supported by the party, an informed source revealed that a kind of cooling has begun to surface publicly concerning relations between the two sides, without any exacerbation in grievances or promises.
According to the source, Hezbollah, which is facing challenges on the southern front and monitoring the developments in Gaza and the region, is not inclined to engage in any internal disputes, either with its allies or with its opponents.
