The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division, issued the following statement today, Saturday: "As part of the continuous monitoring carried out by the Internal Security Forces units to pursue those involved in all types of crimes across Lebanese territory and to arrest them, and after the recent increase in thefts in the southern towns that have seen a population exodus, information became available to the South Investigation Unit regarding a person stealing electrical wires from vacant houses and construction sites due to the current security conditions. Consequently, the mentioned unit was tasked with intensifying intelligence efforts to achieve positive results in reducing this phenomenon and swiftly apprehending the perpetrator.
As a result of extensive investigations and inquiries, the investigation team identified the suspect as: H. K. (born in 1987, Lebanese). On March 10, 2024, after close surveillance, one of the patrols from the South Investigation Unit managed to spot him in the town of Hadatha. They set up a well-planned ambush which led to his arrest in the act of breaking and entering, along with the theft of electrical wires, and approximately 20 kilograms of wires were seized from him.
During the investigation, he confessed to the charges against him regarding several similar thefts in the towns of Kafra and Haris. The tools used in the thefts were also seized. The necessary legal measures were taken against him, and he was referred along with the confiscated items to the relevant authority based on judicial instructions."
He exploited the absence of residents in some southern towns to steal electrical wires from empty homes and construction sites, and he was apprehended by the South Investigation Unit.
