Many people use air conditioners during hot and warm weather to cool and improve the humidity of the air indoors. However, Dr. Yelena Malinikova, head of the Department of Virology at the Russian Medical Academy, warns against the irrational use of air conditioners, as one can get sick even in summer. She points out that "cooling and hypothermia contribute to the development of bacterial infections, which can also originate from the air conditioner." She states: "The air conditioner is a source of some types of infections. Not only Legionella but also some viruses. Fungi also play a negative role, as inhaling fungi can cause very distressing health problems."
