The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, confirmed that the joint higher military committee has agreed to end the international coalition mission according to a timetable, pointing out that the Iraqi-American relationship is the key to stability in the Middle East. In an article in Foreign Affairs magazine, al-Sudani stated that "the elimination of dictatorship allowed Iraqis to taste freedom for the first time," explaining that "Iraqi-American relations carry many commonalities."
Al-Sudani added that "cooperation between Iraq and America has allowed for the rebuilding of the Iraqi army and effective security forces," noting that "the relationship between the two sides needs to protect our strategic partnership." He emphasized, "We support entering a new phase of fruitful cooperation that upholds Iraq's sovereignty and independence," indicating that "the joint higher military committee agreed to end the international coalition mission according to a timetable."
The Prime Minister noted that "the joint military committee has laid out a roadmap for future relations," emphasizing that "the Iraqi-American relationship is the key to stability in the Middle East." He continued, "The decision to wage war and peace must be an exclusive matter for the state," indicating that "only small groups of ISIS remain, which do not pose a threat to the state."
Al-Sudani explained that "the war against ISIS has strengthened our forces' experience, making them among the best armies in counter-terrorism."
