Zkhour: Beirut Port Continues to Achieve Good Results

The First Deputy President of the Arab Union of Maritime Chambers and former President of the International Chamber of Shipping in Beirut, Eli Zkhour, announced that "Beirut Port continues to achieve good results despite the crises and worsening conditions in the country on various political, financial, economic, social, and living levels."

He clarified in a statement that statistics have shown that the total movement recorded in the first seven months of this year is higher than that of the same period last year. The total number of ships arriving at Beirut Port increased to 760 ships of various types and sizes compared to 671 ships, representing an increase of 89 ships or 13%. The total weight of the goods handled also rose to 3.004 million tons compared to 2.945 million tons, an increase of 59,000 tons or 2%.

He added: "The movement of imported containers for local consumption saw a slight decrease, totaling 147,113 standard containers compared to 152,585 containers, a decline of 5,472 standard containers or 4%. Meanwhile, the total number of exported containers increased to 45,488 standard containers compared to 43,346 containers, marking an increase of 2,142 standard containers or 5%."

On another front, Zkhour urged officials, political leaders, and decision-makers in the country "to reach an agreement as soon as possible on electing a president for the republic who enjoys the trust of the Lebanese people, followed by the formation of a government composed of recognized figures for their competence and integrity to achieve the necessary reforms that can lead Lebanon to safety."
