Ukrainian parliamentary Freedom of Speech Committee Chairman Yaroslav Yurchyshyn indicated that "Ukrainian authorities will consider banning the TikTok app in the country if it is banned in the United States." Yurchyshyn stated, "If such sanctions are imposed in a partner country, we will impose them as well. This could also pave the way for a ban on the Telegram app if the United States takes such a drastic step regarding it as well."
Last Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a bill that forces TikTok to separate from its Chinese parent company under the threat of being banned in the U.S. The proposed law had 352 votes in favor and 65 against, marking a rare moment of agreement between the Republican and Democratic parties in Washington. The bill still needs to be approved in the Senate, where it will undergo stricter scrutiny before becoming law.
It is worth noting that TikTok is an app for creating short video clips, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, launched in 2018, and is widely popular in China and around the world.
