During a reception with Ghana's Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey at the second presidential headquarters in Ain al-Tineh, Speaker of the House Nabih Berri expressed gratitude through the minister to the presidency, government, parliament, and people of Ghana for their brotherly and humanitarian embrace of the Lebanese community in Ghana and for Ghana's historical participation in UNIFIL since 1978 to this day.
Berri discussed the general conditions, the historical friendship between the two countries and peoples, and ways to enhance it at various levels, particularly in the legislative field. He also presented recent developments and general conditions during his meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Fronczak.
The Speaker also received the new Indian Ambassador Mohammad Noor Rahman Sheikh in a protocol visit to mark the beginning of his duties as his country's ambassador to Lebanon and discussed the overall conditions in Lebanon and the region as well as bilateral relations.
Furthermore, Ghana's Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey visited the Ministry of Interior, where she met with Minister of Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi. This meeting was attended by the acting Director General of General Security, Major General Elias Beiruti, head of the Lebanese-Ghanaian Parliamentary Friendship Committee MP Ghassan Atallah, and Ghana's Consul in Lebanon Ali Jaafar.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Abdallah Bou Habib discussed with Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey the exemption of holders of diplomatic passports from visa requirements and the initiation of political consultations between the two ministries. They explored ways to develop bilateral relations between the two countries and enhance cooperation and coordination in international forums.
Additionally, Bou Habib received a message from his Romanian counterpart, conveyed by Romania's Ambassador to Lebanon Radu Catalin Mardari, requesting support for Romanian candidate Bogdan Oriescu in the International Court of Justice elections scheduled for next October.
