The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the efforts of the Security Council "to take responsibility for protecting civilians and the Palestinian people who have been subjected to acts of genocide in Gaza for more than 171 days." It emphasized that adopting a decision for an immediate ceasefire is a step in the right direction towards fully and sustainably ending the conflict, withdrawing Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, facilitating the entry of aid, and allowing the forcibly displaced to return to their areas and neighborhoods, despite the destruction and pain.
The Ministry called on the member states of the Security Council to uphold their legal and historical responsibilities by implementing the decision immediately. It added: "We affirm the importance of intensifying international efforts, including in the Security Council, to achieve a permanent and sustainable ceasefire that extends beyond the holy month of Ramadan, and to ensure the entry of international aid into the Gaza Strip to prevent ongoing catastrophe and famine, as well as immediate action to release prisoners and detainees, and to prevent forcible displacement."
