Today, Wednesday, the Minister of National Defense in the caretaker government, Maurice Slim, met in his office in Yarzeh with the new French ambassador to Lebanon, Hervé Magro, in a protocol visit accompanied by the military attaché, Colonel Grégory Medina. During the meeting, the Lebanese-French relations were reviewed from all aspects.
Following the meeting, Magro confirmed that "French President Emmanuel Macron gives special importance to the Lebanese file," emphasizing "France's continued support for Lebanon and the urgent need to elect a president as soon as possible."
The discussion also covered military cooperation between Lebanon and France, especially regarding support for military medicine, naval capabilities, and other areas of collaboration. The issue of Syrian displacement was particularly addressed, with Slim highlighting "the seriousness of this recent displacement, as Lebanon can no longer bear additional security, economic, and social burdens."
Slim also expressed gratitude to France and President Macron for the ongoing support for Lebanon and the Lebanese Army.
Additionally, Minister Slim met with the Chargé d'Affaires at the Indian Embassy, Ambassador Mohammad Noor Rahman Sheikh, in a protocol visit. The discussion focused on bilateral relations, especially military cooperation and India's active participation in UNIFIL, as well as coordination with the Army.
The Defense Minister praised "the role played by the Indian unit in UNIFIL and the excellent relationships it has established with the local population," confirming "the depth of the historical relations between Lebanon and India."
