The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed his appreciation for Russia's balanced position regarding the current crisis in the Middle East, noting that "suppressing any peace efforts, besieging the Palestinian Authority, and continuing settlement expansion and land annexation without pause are factors that cannot be overlooked today." This was stated in a press conference by Aboul Gheit alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following their discussions. He stated, "We have repeatedly warned that extreme Israeli policies represent a ticking time bomb that deprives the region of stability, and those who insist on viewing the situation from a single perspective are mistaken in their inability to see a comprehensive view of the situation."
Aboul Gheit highlighted "an agreement between the Arab League and Russia regarding the Palestinian issue, where the priority now is to stop escalation, stem the bloodshed of civilians, and prevent the situation from worsening to a more dangerous level." For his part, Lavrov mentioned that "after the end of hostilities, there will be only one path forward, which is to hold talks on a two-state solution that ensures peaceful coexistence between Israel and the Palestinians."
Aboul Gheit traveled to Moscow on Sunday to discuss the situation in Gaza following Hamas's largest attack on Israel in years.
