Sheikh Sami Abi Al-Muna, the spiritual leader of the Druze community, urged lawmakers enthusiastic about the bill to decriminalize homosexuality to immediately withdraw it from parliament and discussion, as it represents a form of promoting sin, facilitating the spread of vice, and allowing prohibitions. He stressed the importance of replacing it with constructive alternatives in education and treatment.
Abi Al-Muna made his remarks during the graduation ceremony of the first batch of students at the Prince Sayyed Abdullah Al-Tannoukhi University College of Monotheistic Sciences in Aabey. He pointed out that several challenges lie ahead, with perhaps the most dangerous being the challenge of drifting into ideological currents foreign to our unification, the challenge of atheism or the invitation to adopt misleading intellectual doctrines, the challenge of proselytizing for religious change by extremist groups, as well as the challenge of promoting deviancy, undermining values, fragmenting families, and attacking the divine order.
He questioned, "Is there any clearer indication of this than the proposed bill to the parliament to decriminalize unnatural relationships? We have refused to engage in debate over it, as the matter is already settled for us, and there's no need to reaffirm it every time as if we are on the offensive or defensive."
He confirmed that "this bill is completely unacceptable in our society built on stable pillars of faith, values, and patriotism, as it contributes to the destruction of those foundations upon which we build our existence, enhance our cohesion, and achieve our social and national role. We cannot overlook these deviations, for neglecting them leads to the tyranny of moral decay, which we cannot tolerate in our unified and known society, regardless of the motives and justifications."
