The United States has imposed sanctions aimed at reducing the military and industrial capabilities of Russia, targeting companies and individuals in Russia, China, and other countries for their assistance to Moscow in its war with Ukraine, according to statements from the Departments of State and Treasury on Wednesday. The sanctions focus on around 60 individuals and foreign companies, particularly Chinese entities, accused of "aiding Russia in acquiring essential components for weapon manufacturing or defense programs," as stated in an official announcement. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen noted that "the sanctions implemented today aim to further disrupt and weaken the Russian war effort by targeting its core military industry and the networks that help it circumvent current sanctions." The U.S. State Department also accused Russia of violating the global chemical weapons ban in the war in Ukraine.
