Chiellini Retires from Football

Giorgio Chiellini, former defender of the Italian national team and Juventus, announced his retirement from football at the age of 39 in a statement on his X platform account, formerly known as Twitter. Chiellini, who played 425 matches in the league with Juventus, scoring 27 goals, wrote on X, “(Football) has been the most beautiful and difficult adventure of my life; it has been everything to me. With you, I have experienced a unique and unforgettable journey. But now is the time for a new chapter in my career to take on new challenges and write more exciting pages in my life.”

This season, Chiellini played with Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer. He led the Italian national team to victory in the 2020 European Championship after defeating England in a penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium. The center-back has played 117 matches for his country. Chiellini spent most of his club career at Juventus, helping the team win the Serie A title nine times, the Coppa Italia five times, and the Supercoppa Italiana five times, as well as being a runner-up in the UEFA Champions League twice.
