Iran's Deputy Interior Minister and head of the Arbaeen pilgrimage committee, Majid Mir Ahmadi, revealed on Monday that President Ebrahim Raisi will visit Iraq soon. Mir Ahmadi stated, "The Iranian president will make a visit to Iraq, and afterward, Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari will visit Tehran."
He added, "In negotiations with the Iraqi Interior Minister, we agreed on 50 issues, including facilitating border crossings for visitors, and a plan to exchange Iranian passport information with the Iraqi side will be implemented across the four borders with Iraq. This will continue even after the Arbaeen pilgrimage days." He noted that both sides agreed that the international passport and Hajj passport would be the basis for Iranian visitors traveling to holy sites.
The Deputy Minister of Interior spoke about agreements concerning non-Iranian citizens, stating, "The Iraqi side has some considerations regarding Pakistani citizens that were shared with the Iranian delegation during this trip." The Iraqi Interior Minister will travel to Iran in the future to present proposals for accepting Pakistani visitors and to reach an agreement. This will be Raisi's first visit since he assumed the presidency in August 2021, although Raisi had visited Iraq in previous years while serving as Iran's judiciary chief.
