UNHCR Withdraws Letter Sent to the Ministry of Interior

At the request of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced today the withdrawal of the letter sent to the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities on Friday, May 17, 2024. The UNHCR clarified that the letter directed to the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities last week was sent in accordance with the procedures followed with the relevant government counterparts and in line with the responsibilities entrusted to the UNHCR when addressing issues concerning vulnerable groups in Lebanon, including refugees. The UNHCR emphasized its commitment to being a supportive and transparent partner in Lebanon, stating that it will continue to call for increased assistance to Lebanon and mobilize the necessary resources to meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable groups. Additionally, the UNHCR continues to assert the importance of the international community prioritizing durable solutions for refugees to help ease pressures in Lebanon, including by creating more conducive conditions for return in Syria. The UNHCR reiterated its commitment to constructively cooperate with the Lebanese government.
