Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has stated that he is "aiming to win the top scorer award in Ligue 1 for the sixth consecutive time next season and break the record" after winning the Golden Shoe for the fifth time in a row, tying with Jean-Pierre Papin. Mbappe scored his 29th league goal of the season in the 3-2 loss against Clermont yesterday, concluding another season as the top scorer of the competition. The 24-year-old French player won the award for best player in Ligue 1 for the fourth consecutive season last week. He has finished as the league's top scorer at the end of every season since signing a permanent contract with Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. He won the Golden Shoe jointly with Monaco's Wissam Ben Yedder in the 2019-2020 season.
Mbappe, the club’s all-time leading scorer, expressed, "The top scorer award I won? I'm very happy. We won the competition. I'm still the top scorer and the best player, so that's great." He added, "I am making history, and I am happy. But I still have next year to surpass Jean-Pierre Papin." Three other players have won the Ligue 1 Golden Shoe five times, but Papin was the first to be the league's top scorer for five consecutive seasons between 1987 and 1992 while playing for Olympique Marseille.
