Palestine's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Observer to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, Salah Abd al-Shafi, revealed that a decision from Slovenia and Belgium to recognize the State of Palestine is expected. Salah Abd al-Shafi stated, "Palestine anticipates that the following European Union countries to recognize it will be Slovenia and Belgium, with a decision expected from Slovenia in the first half of next month."
He added, "The Slovenian government decided to officially recognize Palestine as a state more than a week ago, but the procedure requires the parliament to make this decision, which is considered a formality since all government parties have requested recognition, and the government parties hold a majority in parliament. In this regard, we expect recognition to be issued by mid-June."
He also confirmed, "We also expect Belgium to recognize Palestine as a state, as Belgium has already indicated that it views this positively and has previously announced such intentions."
