Sharjah Airport announced that the first quarter of 2024 saw the arrival of over 4.2 million passengers, recording 26,473 flight movements and transporting more than 42,000 tons of cargo. This achievement enhances its regional stature in providing a distinguished travel experience and improving service quality for customers, positively impacting the development of tourism and the economy in the emirate, and driving commercial growth.
Ali Salem Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority, confirmed that the recorded statistics for the first quarter show an increase in passenger numbers by approximately 10% compared to the same period last year, reflecting the efforts made by the Sharjah International Airport Authority and various entities operating at Sharjah Airport to become one of the top 5 regional airports and to strengthen its leading role in providing safe travel experiences and exemplary services for all.
Al Midfa expressed confidence in the ongoing increase in passenger movement and growth in flight operations in the upcoming period, particularly with the continued expansion operations at the airport which aim to increase its capacity to 25 million passengers annually by 2027. He pointed out that the qualitative shift being witnessed at Sharjah Airport across various levels is the result of an ambitious long-term plan being implemented in collaboration with strategic partners from both the public and private sectors, contributing to enhancing its competitiveness and leadership through improved operational performance and offering services that meet the highest global standards, alongside continuous development of infrastructure, facilities, and technical systems, and employing smart solutions to further enhance travel procedures with greater efficiency and effectiveness while expanding the connectivity network with its tourist destinations worldwide.
Statistics revealed that March was the most active month in terms of flight movements, totaling 9,127 flights, and the volume of cargo transported reached 17,700 tons, while January recorded the highest number of passengers at 1,444,525 travelers.
