Officials have reported the deaths of four people and several injuries, along with the collapse of at least 12 buildings, after a tornado struck the town of Matador in northern Texas on Wednesday. The Lubbock Fire Rescue service indicated that the "unprecedented tornado" was accompanied by strong winds that battered the small population center, home to about 600 residents. Lubbock Fire Rescue is one of many emergency crews in the area that joined search and rescue efforts. Law enforcement authorities stated in a briefing on Thursday morning that "at least ten people were taken to local hospitals, and one of them has died." According to the website "PowerOutage.us," power was cut off for most customers in Motley County, where Matador is located. The outage extended approximately 130 miles south of Matador. Crews hope to restore electricity in Matador after the storm destroyed a substation.
